Cheers to old friends

Dear Diary,

Last night Lauren and I had a proper catch up (just the two of us) for the first time in months. It was such a great, comfortable and fun night. What I love about Lauren is that we can go months without having a good chat, then talk the night away like no time has passed at all. I guess that's what happens when you've been friends with someone for 20 years. Far out, I can't believe I'm old enough to say I've had a friend for two decades!

After a glass of wine on her verandah we went to this French restaurant on Darling St, Balmain. We spent WAY too much money but both decided it was well worth it. I had a yellow fin tuna fillet with eggplant puree and crushed black olives and Lauren had the mushroom ragout with white polenta. We had two sides to share - a warm baguette with butter and green beans with a hazelnut vinaigrette. The food was so so so amazing! We also had a glass of wine each and then shared the chocolate tart with marmalade ice-cream. With dessert we also had a French coffee each which came in a tall wine glass with a shot of cognac. I don't know how it happened because my arm wasn't even NEAR my coffee, but it fell over and spilled everywhere! Luckily they brought me another one for free, but this time it was Irish coffee - even better.

By the time I drove home it was about 1am and poor Mike had spent a lonely night at home :( We watched an episode of Dexter and went to bed!

Anyway, last night made me realise that I need to put more effort into maintaining my old friendships. Even though I still see and talk to everyone that I want to, we just don't do it often enough. Life, men, uni, work etc. all gets in the way. It's time to start making more phone calls and organising more nights out!

It's such a beautiful day today and I felt so much like going and having an ice-cream by the water somewhere. But once we considered how long it would take to drive somewhere nice to have an ice-cream we both couldn't be bothered! I can't wait to live in Brisbane and be able to duck into the city and PARK in 15 minutes or drive down to the Gold Coast in 40 minutes. At the moment it looks like we'll be moving to Brisbane sometime between Feb and July in 2009. It all depends on Mike's work. They're opening a Brisbane office in July but if they let him work from home for a few months, we'll probably move around Feb.

On another note, at work yesterday I made a sandwich for lunch, put it in the sandwich press and quickly went ot the toilet (knowing I would be back with more than enough time to save my sandwich!). When I got back the man who works in the deli had removed my sandwich (the cheese hadn't even melted yet) and told me "NEVER TO LEAVE MY SANDWICH UNATTENDED" in the meanest voice. Why are people unnecessarily grumpy? What purpose does it serve? All it achieved was a heavy unfriendly atmosphere for the rest of the day.

Sansa is nagging me for her dinner.

PS. If you love cats, type 'Simon's Cat' indo YouTube. They're a series of little black and white cartoon clips - hilarious!
