OK, musical people.

This is basically flummery's fault. I am listening (once again) to the Flobots "Handlebars" and I am (once again) wondering what this song structure is called.

You start out small (I can ride my bike with no handlebars) and then you escalate to something really big (I can end the planet in a holocaust) and then you go back to small again.

If you wish to listen, you can check out flummery's Dr Who vid or download the song from iTunes. "Handlebars" is a particularly clear example of the type, but it's quite common.

The musical structure and the lyrics agree; the music comes to a climax along with the lyrics and then subsides. There has got to be a name for this but I was unable to find it in my searches this weekend, including in my stray musical theory books.

Anyone?

eta: I mean, I guess it could be an instance of AABA, except the return to A is different than I'm used to, and often although the music is faster/louder it doesn't have any chord changes or the other significant musical changes you usually get with that structure.
