Follow Up on the Hunt for the Perfect Mascara...

Since my first post about mascara, I think I purchased... two kinds and really only tested one. This was Rimmel's Lash Accelerator. It's one of the many mascaras on the market now that claims that it promotes lash growth with the help of enhancers. Here is what Rimmel has to say on their website:

Our first mascara and lash treatment in one that works both instantly, and overtime. The advanced ultra-lengthening formula instantly makes lashes appear up to 80% longer. Over time, the unique Grow-Lash Complex strengthens, nourishes and renews lashes to promote natural lash growth for up to 117% longer looking lashes after 30 days. Discover the secret to beautifully long, natural lashes!

So far, I like it. Which is funny because this mascara doesn't exactly focus on volume and it has a fairly tiny brush (I actually tried to post a photo I swiped off the Rimmel site but Photobucket is being unreasonable).

Do my lashes appear 80% longer? Of course not! But I do definitely see a fair bit of lengthening after applying, which is never a bad thing. Also, I think because the mascara itself it a very dark, it does actually change the look of my lashes, thus making them look a bit thicker. I do really enjoy that the mascara is so dark/black because there are some mascaras out there that go on kind of ashy. I haven't been using this mascara long enough to tell if my lashes have actually grown longer, perhaps I'll be able to see a difference in a few weeks.

And about the tiny brush. I'm actually really enjoying the brush. Usually I prefer bigger brushes, but I think what's really key is the distribution of the bristles. So long as the bristles are spaced out evenly, the product will coat each lash individually. Also, since the brush is smaller, it's easier for me to get really close to the root of my lashes without the risk of poking myself in the eye (but honestly, if you're careful, there shouldn't be any reason for anyone to poke themselves in the eye when applying mascara). The small brush also makes it easier to get the lashes in the outer corners.

Does it smudge? On me? Yes, but I've learned that smudging is almost inevitable with my skin type. Even so, the smudging is minimal. It depends on what I'm doing that day. If I'm doing a lot reading my lashes are down turned and there's more a chance of them touching underneath my eyes, thus causing a bit of smudging. The smudging is really not that bad. I've had smudging incidents where it looks like I've just cried. Considering it isn't waterproof, smudging isn't much of a problem. So if you have dry to regular skin types, I don't think smudging will be a problem.

Other things I take into consideration... Does it hold the curl? I'd say it does pretty well, especially when I'm due for a knew curler. As I mentioned earlier, Lash Accelerator is not waterproof so it is very easy to take off.

All in all, I like Rimmel's Lash Accelerator and I'd definitely recommend it. Later days! :D
