So I'm still reading 'Persuasion'...

It’s not that I’m a slow reader or that I’m not liking it (I’m loving it), I’ve just only been reading it at work. And I can only read at work when I’m working in the garden centre when it isn’t busy.

As I was reading yesterday, I found a quote that I absolutely love:

‘The name Anne Elliot,’ said he, ‘has long had an interesting sound to me. Very long has it possessed a charm over my fancy; and, if I dared, I would breathe my wishes that the name might never change.’

The context of the quote isn’t what I love about it. A) Because I don’t like Mr. Elliot and B) Because he’s her cousin (I know it was common during this time, but I’m allowed to have my modern beliefs :P). Hence him never wanting Anne’s sir name to change. In the annotations of the edition I own it explains that this is basically a carefully phrased marriage proposal. It’s just so clever, and if I liked Mr. Elliot I’d be swoonin’. As I read it I actually went, “Ooooow!” Luckily the garden centre was empty. ;)
