Just about the last thing you ever want to hear...

Well as some of you may know my Mum in Canada has not been at all well of late, having had 3 of her 4 parathyroids removed in December and developing a great deal of difficulty swallowing as a result. However it looked like she was on the mend, only to find out that she's back in the Foothills Hospital with a blood clot in her leg, but that they have found a mass in her abdomen that they are wanting to biopsy... Having had that info on my Father's 82nd Birthday just 4 days ago, I guess it shouldn't come as a shock that the biopsy is positive for cancer - now it's just down to the Dr's to run tests to find out exactly what sort and from there what treatment options are open to her. The good thing is that other than all this she's in pretty good health and so if a surgical option is available she should be ok taking it...

Right now I'm up while the rest of the household is sleeping, trying to work out how to tell my son that his beloved Grammy has cancer. He's all too aware what this diagnosis can equal having lost MrO's Dad to it just 18 months ago...

Lastly how do I face attending MrO's second cousin's funeral on Monday?! He was a lovely young man and a talented chef who I very much liked, even if he was a bit of a troubled soul... We're close to his Father (MrO's much older cousin) and his other son, so I can't back out but it's going to take a lot of will power not to blub and totally loose it. Not only because of who he was and how young, but because of Mum and the great friend Jens I lost many years ago at a similar age and also through misadventure... :(

Ok, now I'm calm I guess it's time to face the music and try and explain to my son what's wrong with his Grammy...
