My mother amuses me.
She called me yesterday to say hi and check up on things for me, to tell me about what was going on.
See, she's a bridge fanatic and has played, off and on, for years; she played competitively when I was in high school and was actually pretty good. So, now she's moved to this small town and has started playing again, this time with the bridge groups in town.
Well, these are established foursomes. And the only time she got to play was when someone couldn't make it. The only time there are openings is when, well... someone dies.
Evidently an 85-year-old lady passed away so there's an opening. They voted, and my mom got invited by two groups to play. She finds it kind of morbid, but at the same time was flattered.
So she played for the first time last week. A 75-year-old lady called her a smartass and threatened to kick her under the table. Evidently, my mom was winning. :) She's probably the youngest one there, at almost 60.
I thought that was hilarious.
