Really behind on joke of the day stuff. Let me explain. It isn't that I haven't been writing, to the contrary, I have written a lot lately. But the problem with a joke a day is that I don't necessarily write "jokes". I typically write longer bits. These longer bits usually rely heavily on delivery. It makes it difficult to write these down and actually get the point across.
So joke a day is now going to be called occasional jokes when jake thinks of an actual joke and not a long bit.
It is a bit wordy but it'll do.
Which leads us to our next point… what kind of comedy do I want to do? I have probably about 45 minutes worth of material total. But I find myself wanting to scratch a large majority of the things I have written. Some of the earlier stuff I wrote was very "blue". Not blue as in sad, but blue as in dick jokes. But not actual dick jokes, that is just a figure of speech.
I was basically trying to be dave attell and that doesn't work since soooo many other comedians are trying to be dave attell. I mean I like shock humor, but shock humor is situational to me. It depends on where I am. If I am at a nursing home then I love to make obscene jokes because the reactions are hilarious. But late night comedy clubs doesn't seem like the place I would want to do it.
Lately I have really been enjoying surreal comedy. It is fun to make extreme comparisons and just do abstract comedy. I like it because of the challenge. It is just fun to do things like comparing incest to fishing and listing reasons why they are essentially the same thing.
On a side note… I have had a lot of fun working out my "act" though. I am basically trying to make it seem like one giant story. I am trying to make transitions between my bits to add a level of continuity. I just want it to seem like an autobiography of my life and one continuous story as opposed to individual bits. I am getting ready to actually try this out. So watch out Laughing Skull Lounge because here I come*!
*assuming I can find my license so that I can actually get in the club in the first place.
