The one time in my whole life I don't save a document obsessively, and my computer crashes...let's attempt this post again!
I haven't been hugely excited about Blackest Night; I'm more a fan of the tertiary characters, so the huge world-changing major character-dominated DC events tend to leave me cold. That said, I rather liked this issue, mostly cause the resurrected White Lantern Corps was just an awesome idea. And yay for Tora and Booster getting right in there! And now back to my usual rambly list format.
- So, Max Lord is back. Being a big fan of his, I am displeased. I'll just cling to the hope that someone will retcon the retcon and get him back to normal (especially since he's almost certainly going to be the villain for Generation Lost). But apparently canon now says that Max hasn't always been evil, but got fucked up during the whole cyborgification thing. This a) is slightly less horribly OOC, and b) makes it easier to deus ex machina him back to normal.
...especially if there's time travel, come to think of it. Well, if they ignore the solidified time rules again. Which they can retcon if they absolutely must retcon something grrrrrrrr - I may have evil!Max, but I just adore evil!zombie!Max. He just makes a broken neck look so cute!
- Max's eye color: currently brown. Weren't his eyes blue when he was evil and during half of his appearances? IT'S A SIGN. Max only mindwhammied Guy to buy some time while he figured out what happened and planned how to prove to everyone that he really isn't evil! That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
- Update: No, evil!Max's eyes were brown. Ah well, I like them better brown anyway.
- ...what the hell is going on with Max in that DC Nation picture. He should not have a superhero's physique! And, oh yeah, he isn't friggin' blond!
- J'ONN IS BACK YAY. And adorable as always. Now go re-befriend Max and justify my crack ship
- Deadman is also back! Probably the most surprising resurrection of Blackest Night. I think if writers actually do something with him, instead of dropping him off the face of the earth and/or making him canon fodder, he could have some awesome stories in the future.
- Huh, Osiris is alive. Wasn't he created solely to die and screw over Black Adam? Guess there's gonna be some interesting stuff going on over in that corner of the DC Universe...
- "I think dead is dead from here on out." Bets on how many months that'll last? I say four months, cause Brightest Day is over in June.
- Bawwww, Barry looking for Ralph and Sue. ._. And no Ted or Charlie, but I didn't really expect them. They're totally missing because Ralph and Sue are off being ghost detectives and helping Ted and Vic fight ghost robot sharks.
- Larfleeze and Lex Luthor are hilarious together and should get a buddy cop series. Also, Larfleeze in general. I MUST KNIT ONE.
- Wait, didn't Rucka say the Renee-chasing-zombie!Charlie storyline would be resolved in Blackest Night? They weren't even anywhere in the crowd scenes, that I saw. I choose to believe he's following her around and ineffectually trying to eat her heart with no mouth.
And then there was Tec! By which I mean the Question co-feature I immediately skipped to.
- Goddamn, guys, stop making me ship you or I'll be even sadder when there's no Renee in Birds of Prey!
- Dear DC: Can someone please write down eye colors somewhere and keep them vaguely consistent? Cause Helena apparently put in blue contacts in between panels.
- Seriously, they make an awesome team.
- Yay, Scandal's dad! (Why yes, I did just read all of Secret Six.)
