Question #37 Ramblings

  • COWAN. ♥ ♥ I wasn't always a fan of Cowan's art, but goddamn I loved it here. Gorgeous, atmospheric, and, of course, reminiscent of the past. And Renee looks damn good.
  • Rucka and O'Neil: also amazingtastic. Rucka's quips and O'Neil's philosophic narration work great together, and I love how this works as a continuation for both the new and old Question series.
  • Tot: what the everloving hell, Tot. I'm...a big shocked by Tot's characterization here. Intellectual curiosity, of course, but enough to raise the evil zombie of his son figure? Damn. It's definitely a different direction that Tot has been--if they keep on developing him, it could be interesting. It feels strange to me, though, because Tot hasn't let Charlie go, yet; that's probably part of the reason why he brought him back, subconsciously, but wouldn't that show up in his spectrum? It's a little too supervillainy for him, and I'm not sure it'll work since there's so little space to develop a supporting character of a co-feature. Solution: get Renee her own book!
  • Lady Shiva: She is a batshit-crazy bitch and I love her. Uh, that's about it. Please bring her back to be insane at Tot and Renee, cause the banter is hilarious.
  • Renee: RENEE I LOVE YOU SO MUCH. She is so damn awesome in this comic, from treating Shiva with the same "wtf why am I surrounded by crazy people" attitude she treated Charlie, to not believing his tactics for a second, to feeling compassion the whole time, to understanding she had to let go and doing so, to chasing Charlie down at the end. Plus she's so pretty. In sum, Renee is Renee and thus awesome.
  • Charlie: Charliiiiiiiiiie ;~; I loved seeing the flashback to his life (especially Myra and Richard, and that Charlie/Myra panel is especially lovely), and I loved seeing him interact with everyone again. Zombie Charlie isn't quite as hilariously quippy as zombie Max, but then again, he didn't have the JLI's sense of humor to draw from. Heh. And Tot calling him "son" and saying goodbye was heartbreaking. (Come to think of it, though, I'm surprised Tot could do that so easily--Renee and Shiva were both trained in Zen and meditation and all that.)
  • HOLY CRAP THERE'S MORE! I did not expect that, and I am very happy. Now where the hell is it going to be? The obvious solution, naturally, is to GIVE RENEE HER OWN BOOK. Then again, that's pretty much my solution to everything.
