Man I don't even remember what's happened since last time I updated. One thing on my mind is how much I love taking the metro every day. I love it because it's built-in reading time. I've been reading so much! Not just books but also davening, so I'm practicing my Hebrew kriat. I am already getting faster! I time it based on the metro stops. Before I finished birkat hamazon at Mostoles, and now I finish it like two stops before that! I get some weird looks though.
Today, I was walking to the cell phone store to change my plan, and I got a little lost and found a community garden! I've been to two other ones here, but they were tiny. This one is much better. I talked to a woman working there. I'm going to come help on Sunday. I'm really excited. I miss the dirt. Incidentally, I also found a feminist bookstore and a feminist sex shop. And a 'tienda ecologica' with lots of good but expensive stuff. I got candied ginger there. I'm obsessed with candied ginger and dark chocolate together.
I tried to open a bank account but couldn't. Boring bureaucratic stuff blah blah. Will have to try again later.
Hung out with Oliver, took him to La Tabacalera, Casa Blanca, and the Senegalese restaurant. I'm glad he's here. He's really cool and nice. He's going to stay in my room this weekend while he looks for a flat. I don't have work on Monday or Tuesday for some holiday. I had wanted to travel but I have too much stuff to do. Tomorrow morning I'm meeting the woman whose guitar I might buy.
Oh so yesterday I went to Casa Blanca to check out this queer tango class. Unfortunately the class was canceled because one of the teachers couldn't come, but I met the other teacher and hung out with her. We're "friends" now. I say it in quotes because I think I've met a ton of awesome people here but I'm not really friends with any of them. It's not their fault, maybe it's mine for never contacting them again, but none of these relationships are lasting. I need to decide which ones I want to cultivate, and then focus on those, I guess. Anyway, she's super cool. Queer tango means everyone in the class learns both roles, lead and follow. There is also discussion about gender and dance. And it's queer friendly of course. I'm excited to start it next week.
I don't know if I mentioned already, I got some milk kefir! I found a list of people who share kefir in Madrid. I met up with this really sweet woman named Flor and she gave it to me! I am still looking for kombucha and water kefir. I don't really like the taste of milk kefir yet. But it's probably because I don't have any sugar! I am going to make a fruit smoothie with it. I'm sure I'll like that. I miss kombucha. Oh, also Flor told me that her friend just opened a language academy and is hiring English teachers. She passed my resume along to him, so we'll see! There is a woman who wants me to teach her daughter private classes in Mostoles, but she wants them to be 6-8 pm. My school gets out at 4, so I'd have to wait around for 2 hours in boring boring Mostoles until the class. I can't decide!
I hung out with my neighbor today. He gave me a bunch of his music. Yann Tiersen and the Arcade Fire are coming to Madrid soon! We might go seeeee them!
