So last night I went to the ice bar with Alice and her friends. It was 15 euros, what a rip-off. But now I can say I've been inside a bar made of ice in Madrid? Afterwards we went for churros and chocolate. It was so delicious. They have all these places that serve a bunch of churros (less sweet than the ones I'm used to, without cinnamon sugar) and a cup of melted chocolate. Mmmm. It was only 3.50 and I shared mine with someone else. It was fun. Today I was going to go to el Rastro to get a blanket and maybe other stuff, but I felt tired plus I should stop spending money before I get my first paycheck. I decided to go to the lunch at the feminist place from 2-5. I met lots of people there. Pretty sure every single person who goes there is a lesbian. I met one woman, a Jewish woman from Venezuela, who is writing a doctoral thesis about the concept of "the other" in Hannah Arendt's writings! How freaking cool. I think she wants to practice English and maybe learn more Jewish things, so we might do an exchange in which we discuss Arendt in English, talk about Judaism, etc. I told her about April Flakne, so she's going to look her up. There is one woman there who looks just like Shane from the L Word, lol. She's nice. Anyway, I met a woman from the US who saw my books with Hebrew on them and asked if I read Hebrew or am Jewish. I said yes and she said her family is Jewish. We started discussing religion at some point, maybe it was because of that, or maybe because I said I studied religion and gender, and she went on a rant about how religion divides people, and how for her it's something inside of you, blah blah blah. I said that just as it divides, it also unites. And then she argued more. It annoyed me. She got heated and kept going on about it. Why are people so narrow-minded about religion? I always affirm that religion is sometimes oppressive, divisive, dangerous, etc. I never disagree with those sentiments. But people who think it's ONLY that are stupid and make me really mad. Grrrrr. Anyway, she was cool aside from that. We friended each other on Facebook because she wanted to send me info about some book club, and she sent me a message apologizing for "getting heated" and being a really passionate, critical person blah blah. That was nice, I guess. The way she said it sounded like she assumes I'm not critical of religion or something, which is not the case. I'm very critical of it. That's all I did for four years every day in college. I'm just not an idiot. Phewww it's okay, she is God just like I am :-).
I also wanted to say that I miss certain people a lot right now, too much.
