There has been this movement recently that, as a computer programmer, you might think I would be against: To get away from PDAs and Palm-Top computers and organize your life on the go with pencil and paper. Often just some blank index cards clipped together and stuck in a pocket. This kind of low-tech organizer is called a
Hipster PDA and, surprise, I'm all for it.
I'm a firm believer that the simplest answer is often the best one. Besides using a 'Hipster PDA' usually starts and ends with a computer; only the middle part where you are carrying around the paper doesn't require a CPU. People have worked out all kinds of interesting ways to organize your life this way. Heck, there is even
a blog all about it.
So, when I came across
the Pocket Mod I took the time to fool around with it. Definitely pretty cool! What they have is a nice little Flash application that lets you build your own notebooks and organizers which fit onto a single page of printed paper. You then print it out and, following some rather strange directions, fold and cut the page into a handy pocket-sized notepad containing exactly the stuff you need.
I like it. Except that I had some trouble following the folding directions. Luckily
Anita figured out how to do it. After some false starts I can now fold them like a pro!
