I hear this kind of story all the time. It all comes down to 'listening to the customer' and any software company that cannot do so is setting itself up for failure. (Yes, this also applies to everything from restaurants to clothing manufacturers. But software companies are uniquely dependent on customer goodwill, even when everyone agrees they have their customers locked in.)
