The Dems will only lose more seats in Congress and continually fail to get in the White House. Soon enough, they'll barely exist except for strongholds, and even those are dwindling (witness Ohio's shift to a "contested" state, Maryland's ongoing shift to a Republican state). Twelve years is enough time for this to happen and I don't see why it wouldn't. The party is a decentralized nightmare that panders to an imaginary constituency.
Look at what the party is doing, though. They're pandering to conservatives and moderates, drafting legislation that limits what kind of entertainment a person can go out and get, they're playing slippery-slope arguments to go and censor things.
I mean, shit, when was the last time a prominent Democrat did something /good/?
No, the party isn't doing that. Members of the party are. The entire party is pretty diverse and covers people from right of centre to the far left, if we're using archaic political paradigms. Just like any group, they have their shitheads

Obama may be considering some kind of video game legislation as evidenced by recent rhetoric. Feingold supports the Broadcast Flag, doesn't she? All are still fixated on things like Why we went to war in the first place, which I don't see as getting anything accomplished right now. It would be nice to hold those responsible for crimes accountable, and mistakes accountable, however I think it would be best to focus on what America can do to get out of the messes we're in instead of just criticizing those in charge, and I'm not hearing any plans that satisfy me or that seem pratical at all.
Have you been looking? I mean, the party's website has a bunch of information, obviously. Dean's Democracy for America has a list of Democratic candidates all over the US with links to their websites which pretty clearly state their plans. And so on.
I have been looking, and really, I'm not impressed. Especially given the political scene of Maryland, which I'm taking as a kind of microcosm of the overall system

First of all, there's a HUGE difference between saying something is going to happen and saying this is something you want to happen.
The party isn't "a confused mess of conflicting policies." It's a huge party, because you only have two, so it's full of all different ideals. And that's a good thing. Would you rather everyone in the party agree on everything, or would you rather it be full of different ideas? And the only difference here between them and the Republican Party is that the current section in power of the GOP is very good at forcing people to go along with them, making it appear as though everyone agrees, and generally playing politics.
You're not going to get a multi-party system until the entire system is completely overhauled. The entire game has been rigged since it came into being, and until that changes, this is what you get. The Democratic Party falling apart won't push things in the direction you want.
It's good to see you haven't lost your sense of humour. Nick.
