I am on my first road gig.
I've never worked on the tour end of a road gig before, and thus far, I'd say that I'm having a good time doing it. The Squonk gang has been a blast to work with, and I feel like the load-in and build have been fairly smooth so far. We play a show tomorrow and Friday night, then load the truck and drive back Saturday. It's been crazy, sometimes a bit overwhelming, but overall I'm getting the hang of the build of the show and learning a lot. I like to think that I'm fixing and imiproving things as I go too, which is always nice. Some of the set pieces and props are suffering from road damage and wear and tear, and some were never built too well in the first place. Part of my job over the next few months is to do some improvements to the 'Hometown' set and make it more tour-able. It's fun to figure out clever ways to make things break down and set up faster, without wearing out and breaking in the process, and so far at least, I feel like I'm doing fairly well at it.
I will try to get some action shots of the set and the tech rehearsals that happen today. Word around the campfire is that I have an electric blue jump suit that I have to wear as a costume, and that it's left over from my predecessor, who was "a big guy." I believe they said it is a XXL . This may get interesting...
