Longest post in quite a while....

This has been a rough couple of weeks.

Work has been somewhat annoying, but now the Boss is away for two weeks, and I get to rattle around here by myself. This can be both good and bad, but in any case, it leaves me to make my own schedule, so needless to say it’ll be light. So there’s that.

In other news, Pippi is open, and that means no more rehearsal. Sweet Jesus, that’s some good news. It was a blast having an audience finally, and it’s still pretty amazing how good it feels to make people laugh. And there were a lot there to laugh to, apparently the house was packed. We helped with the tea afterwards, and some kids all rattled around asking we in the cast for autographs, which was a strange sensation. I don’t think I’ve ever been asked for my autograph before.

WARNING! Tech-out follows!

After Pippi opened, I had to dash away to work to pick up equipment, then straight on to Hartwood acres, where the hurricane benefit concert was already started. I arrived well after the show had already started, and they had already turned all the lights on. There turned out to be a horrendous over-voltage problem in the stage power, which is nothing new. But this time it was above the workable limits of Dave’s sound equipment, and none of his power conditioners would work. So they had run all the lights onstage, including the works and the halogens, which had managed to pull the voltage (up yours, Bill) down below 128v. (I realize that I have to do about 6 shots for this paragraph. I am ok with this.) Anyway, the upshot of all this is that the lights just had to be on and stay on, and I didn’t need to bother doing any rock-show effects or level changes, nor did I even bother to hook up the light board. So I just rattled around between the backstage and the sound board, and complained about the cold. Dave made off-color jokes, and complained about how he wasn’t getting paid for the concert. So at least things hadn’t changed since the summer. The concert was done by about 9:30, and I jetted out of there as fast as I could. In a related story: it’s gettin’ COLD already! Yeesh!

The real thing that’s eating at me is what I’ll just refer to as ‘The Harris Grill Situation’, since I don’t really want to get into any details here. The gist of it is that some people that I had thought were friends of mine have done something that I consider to be quite despicable and unprofessional to a very good friend of mine, and I am now in the unfortunate position of having to deal with feeling quite betrayed and disappointed by what they have done. And the fact that what has happened is so disturbingly similar to what happened last year at this time is making me really wonder about the state of the universe these days.

I’m in quite a quandary I’d say. And I don’t like feeling betrayed by people I’d considered friends.

More later. I have a job-offer to consider too, which doesn’t simplify things either. It would appear that I am living in interesting times. Argh.
