I was quite happy to see that
quietsiege material is now online at

I don't know why I signed up for the site. It's difficult to imagine a poorer successor to mp3.com.
First of all, they separated the domains of the independent artists from the big names (I will enumerate the faults of the "big name" site first), which is both lame and creepy. Second of all, they ripped off all their blurbs from Allmusic. While I'm sure they had permission to do so, said permission does not excuse lameness. Third of all, the "musicvine" feature is both confusing and stupid.
That brings us to the lameness of the site for independent artists. We are all familiar with the "complete sentences" fiasco, during which the site demonstrated that it probably does not have the literary sophistication to use a question mark. Furthermore, their layout is ugly, their decision to only post mp3s at 192kbps is completely irrational (the standard is 128kbps), and their artist pages are inflexible. It denied my artist picture because it was six pixels away from being a perfect square!
Not to mention that they took forever to post my artist page in the first place. Really, I thought that the six month hiatus would at least allow them to design something more serviceable than whatever that is. I just uploaded a "square" picture, but I'm not sure if I'll add anything else unless the site substantially improves.
