So here's how this is going to work, since the NFL season gets started tonight I'm making my predictions now. The regular NFL column will appear on Fridays and the College column will appear on Thursdays starting next week. I will also try to have a mid-week column about something else.
Without further ado, here is a quick line-up of how I figure the divisions will play out for the season...
AFC EAST
Patriots - 11-5
Dolphins - 9-7
Jets - 5-11
Bills - 3-13
AFC NORTH
Steelers - 11-5
Bengals - 10-6
Ravens - 8-8
Browns - 6-10
AFC SOUTH
Colts - 13-3
Jaguars - 11-5
Texans - 6-10
Titans - 5-11
AFC WEST
Broncos - 11-5
Chiefs - 9-7
Chargers - 8-8
Raiders - 6-10
AFC PLAYOFFS
Jags over Broncos, Steelers over Bengals, Colts over Jags, Steelers over Pats, Colts over Steelers.
NFC EAST
Giants - 11-5
Cowboys - 10-6
Redskins - 8-8
Eagles - 8-8
NFC NORTH
Vikings - 10-6
Bears - 8-8
Packers - 6-10
Lions - 5-11
NFC SOUTH
Panthers - 12-4
Buccaneers - 10-6
Falcons - 8-8
Saints - 5-11
NFC WEST
Seahawks - 12-4
Cardinals - 9-7
Rams - 6-10
49ers - 2-14
NFC PLAYOFFS
Vikings over Bucs, Cowboys over Giants, Seahawks over Vikings, Panthers over Cowboys, Panthers over Seahawks.
SUPER BOWL XLI
Panthers over Colts
So, if you don't like it, I don't care. Here are my Week 1 picks...
Steelers over Dolphins... I really think that Daunte Culpepper will be a hindrance for the Dolphins playoff chances, not that Joey Harrington would help.
Panthers over Falcons... it's game 1 on the road to home field in the playoffs and a Super Bowl win for my second favorite team. I would even be willing to wager that Vick gets picked 3 times and injured trying bring his team back in the fourth.
Bucs over Ravens... going with home field advantage, and it's too early to tell if Steve McNair will help or hurt the Ravens.
Patriots over Bills... I think the Bills will be distracted because they're trying to figure out how terrible they need to be to draft Brady Quinn... not that it would even matter.
Bengals over Chiefs... even though I predicted 9-7, I may pick against the Chiefs all year, just because that's what a pessimistic fan does.
Broncos over Rams... I like Stephen Jackson, I really do. Too bad I like the Broncos team talent and coaching much better. (OK, I don't like it... I respect it more.)
Saints over Browns... welcome to the NFL Reggie Bush, no show us what you are capable of.
Titans over Jets... nice start for a team that will be competing for a top 5 draft pick. Am I talking about the Titans or the Jets? (Note: Look for Mizzou alum Brad Smith in his NFL debut at WR for the Jets.)
Eagles over Texans... I see no reason to make fun of the Texans any further, but they may actually overtake the Titans in the division this year.
Seahawks over Lions... the Lions are like a small country with nuclear arms, lots of firepower but no ability to use it.
Bears over Packers... I feel bad for Brett Favre, but so does everyone else, so I won't dwell on the fact that he's the most unfortunate Hall of Famer on the field this year.
Jaguars over Cowboys... I just don't like the idea of TO playing well right away, but I think he'll have a serious impact on the team later.
Cardinals over 49ers... Adrian Peterson should watch this one, the Niners will probably be wasting his talents next year.
Colts over Giants... Eli is not better than Peyton and Peyton will prove it, or will the Colts defense?
Vikings over Redskins... only because Clinton Portis isn't 100%.
Chargers over Raiders... Phillip Rivers will have to wait another week for his cruel welcome to the NFL.
There you have it. I'm tired... see you tomorrow for college stuff.
