symmetric distortion semantic divide
i said i was kidding you said i lied
the ways you constrain me leave me tongue-tied
but if we were more open there'd be nowhere to hide
gullible hearts are too quick to feel
minds working overtime to guess the reveal
naively believing that there's something real
lacking the guts or the guile to deal
with a world that is made for just passing through
a world that is me except sometimes it's you
and i'm trying to only say things that are true
my silence explains that those things are too few
but sense starts to pool in the space between words
like hopes between dreams and what really occurs
the longer you stare at it the more that it blurs
the sign and the thing to which it refers
