He was seated by a pond, in a well manicured Japanese garden. His sleeves were rolled up and he was holding a struggling fish. He could taste fish in his mouth, and see the bones of previous catches next to him, one set hanging from his own mouth rather comically as he held on to his prey.
It was strangely surreal, the way he could see his surroundings, the lamps lighting the garden and the falling cherry blossoms. He could taste, but not feel, the bones in his mouth. The skin of his hands was grey and ashen where it held the fish.
He was turned a little, looking to the side at a card that floated in the air. Trapped in the card like a small prison was a figure holding a mop. It was speaking, but whatever it had to say apparently didn’t please him. His memory smacked the card with the fish and turned back to his catch.
Something caught his memory’s attention, though Jack could not tell how or why. But his memory glanced over his shoulder, towards a pair of men approaching him. They were speaking but there was no sound. The two were dressed outrageously, tight lace-up pants, silly boots and punk jackets. They both had ashen skin and a pattern like a crown of thorns on their forehead. The dark-haired one had short hair and a cocky grin. The other had long blond hair and a strange antenna thing strapped to his head, as well as his mouth stitched up.
They both wore too much make up, and had guns pointed casually at each other, the dark haired one aimed for the blond’s head, the blond for the dark-haired one’s heart. They stopped in front of Jack’s memory, obviously speaking with him, the floating card and its prisoner hovering nearby.
The dark haired one kicked at Jack’s memory, but the memory deflected casually, raising his arm to catch the boot meant for his head.
The two leaned their faces in close, agitated, and the memory ended.
