Oho! I have found the “lost” unsecured wireless network again! Purely by accident, but we discovered it last week when I set up the laptop on our serving hatch by the kitchen. It was just supposed to be for referring to a recipe (cause we’re so high tech, haha) and next thing you know, we were connected to the same network we were stealing before. So that’s good news, because our bloody broadband provider is still lagging in the delivery department. They’re promising us broadband by this weekend, but I’m thinking we should ring them up say tomorrow to confirm on what’s been done so far. Meanwhile, the only bad thing about having to access Net connection from our serving hatch means I have to remain standing a lot. Our hatch is about 3 feet in height, so unless we had a bar stool..
Anyways, our trip to Camden and the city last Saturday wasn’t much of an event. It could be daring of me to say this so soon, but I really don’t think Camden Market/Town is very interesting at all. The first time I ever went there was April this year, and the second was last Saturday. It’s the kind of place that’s visually different if you’ve never seen it before, but I would think one trip is enough for most people. Most of the goth shops there sell pretty much the same thing, as do the market stalls. So effectively, Camden Town is pretty much a collection of stalls and shops all retailing the same stuff. Not exactly a good sales strategy, if you ask me. But walking along the streets and seeing all the Goths, it’s easy enough to see why the culture appeals to some.
Unfortunately for us, our search for a pretty throw in Camden wasn’t at all successful. Serves us right for thinking we could find something bright and colourful that wasn’t either Gothic or hippie in a place like Camden. Hehe. But our mission for Thai food went down well, cause we found a decent Thai & Malaysian Restaurant there. It’s strange how most of the Thai restaurants here are either affiliated to Malaysian cuisine, or run by Malaysian people. I never knew Malaysians proclaimed to be so knowledgeable about Thai cuisine. All the waitresses in the eatery were Malaysian, and spoke with heavy Malaysian accents too. I was just thrilled they did Tom Yum Soup Noodles, whilst Tim went crazy over the Malaysian Kari Ayam. I swear, that boy.. Soon I’m going to have to make some chicken curry, cause I wouldn’t even rate what he had at more than 5/10, but he thought it was pretty good. Sigh. My poor deprived boy.
Oh yeah, so back to shopping. We went to the city after lunch in Camden, and found ourselves right smack in the middle of the Christmas crowd. There were some light displays up along the streets, but not anything that would seriously rival Singapore during Christmas. Lots and lots of shoppers out and about though, which reminded me of why I love AND hate being in the city. We ended up doing most of our shopping at John Lewis, and I finally have the missing piece to my wedding dress! We found a nice light gold one to be added on as the belt/sash/bow thing I wanted. All we need now is some expert help from Tim’s mummy and her sewing machine. =)
(P.S: Mum, we saw a few Magimix blenders there - priced between £100-150).
Other than that, Sunday was not a lot of fun in terms of helping clean the old flat. There’s a lot of dust there, so even though I was armed with a vacuum cleaner (sucking dust is a lot better than wiping dust, in my opinion), I still fell sick. Those of you who’ve known me for a long time will probably know about my extreme allergic reaction to dust. And so it is that I now have a cold again. I’ve been eating up a lot more of my cold pills than I expected to in the short time I’ve been here. For all the trouble we went through (poor Timmy was cleaning the bathroom), I hope we get most of his deposit back.
In the meantime, I hope to upload a bunch of pictures onto Flickr today. I know we’re quite overdue on that - apologies! Check for updates on my
Flickr page!
