February has been an insane month, but it ended really well! The work week flew by, and before I knew it, Mu was back here again (with pink lilies in his hand!) on Friday. In addition, my lab went out to get a red velvet cupcake and apple turnover to sing happy birthday to me! I had a ton of work to do that day, but we managed to make our 7:30pm reservation at Currant in San Diego. I had the tomato soup, and he had the bison burger. We split the popcorn of the moment and the tempura green beans with wasabi aioli sauce. It was okay, but I thought my soup was too sweet. We spent the night at the fancy-schmancy Westgate Hotel. It was so pretty!
We headed out bright and early to the San Diego Zoo on Saturday. It started out cloudy and rained periodically throughout the day, but that didn't stop us. I got to see the pandas!!!!!!!!! We went to see the pandas first thing, then left to see some other animals, and came back to watch the pandas eat lunch. The pandas were sooooooo cute! They looked so comfortable in their pits, eating bamboo. We also saw the sloth bear poop! At first it was just shaking its head back and forth while facing a wall, which was really strange to begin with. Then it stopped and started pooping! After our zoo exploration, we stopped by Panera for a very late and very quick lunch before driving up to Irvine. We killed time at Fashion Island (where we bought a baby panda from Build-a-Bear) before meeting Mishelle and Jeremiah for dinner at a sushi restaurant. It's always such a delight to see them! I even got to meet Kobe (their rabbit) at their apartment after dinner. They have such a cozy place, and Kobe was so sweet. :)
Sunday was Disneyland day!!! It was slightly crowded, but we still managed to get on a bunch of rides. We had lunch at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen in Downtown Disney. We split the seafood pot pie and an order of cheese and garlic bread. Yum! They even gave me some birthday beignets!! We also got to try the Dole pineapple whip at Adventureland (after a VERY long wait in line), but I was disappointed to see that it was hollow on the inside. :( Nevertheless, it was still a very good Disneyland trip, although we had to end it on the early side because I had a 10am meeting the next day. We had lunch at an authentic Korean restaurant in Garden Grove where we split the seafood pancake and Korean BBQ. Soo good. The meat was so tender and tasty!
And now the work week has begun again. So far it's been a lot of science, science, and more science. I've been staying quite late at lab everyday, but thank goodness for Campus Cruiser. I can't believe it's March already! As a recap, here were my February goals:
1. Drink more water. Slight success. I did very well most of the first part of the month, but when I started at my new lab, there was no more water jug (I'm in a different building) so it's hard to refill my water bottle.
2. Incorporate more strength training. Success! I try to do a couple weights after my cardio everyday since it only takes a few minutes.
3. Take the stairs at school. Tried and failed. :( Peer pressure - everyone takes the elevator and we travel in packs.
4. Be a more patient girlfriend. No change. I tried to be wary of it, but I can't tell if I actually improved.
Goals for March:
1. Keep going on the water thing.
2. Try to keep spending down. I haven't been thinking much before buying many non-essential items, so now I'll try to really think if I really need what I want to buy.
3. Adhere to my sleeping schedule more strictly. I sleep at 11pm and wake up at 6:30am, but I tend to drag my bedtime on and on, so I want to be more careful and try to sleep as close to 11 as possible.
Okay, happy March everyone!
