45 months!

I'm pretty sure I'm the only one in a relationship that still recognizes month-iversaries, but I feel like it's something I want to acknowledge every month because it amazes me how long it's been and how our relationship has grown. I don't think it's a bad thing because I'm not looking for presents or flowers or fancy dinners. It's one day where I take an extra moment to think about how happy and in love I'm in. :)

This week passed by incredibly slowly. My life has been taken over by science ever since I started in the Finkel lab. Sometimes I can't tell the difference between a weekend or a weekday because E. coli have a life of their own that does not include adjusting to my life (meaning I sometimes have to monitor them on a consecutive day basis). That being said, I still love working with bugs. Because the experiments are easy to initiate, I'm not worried about messing up. In addition, messing up won't set me back weeks or months of work -- at most it would be just days.

My life has also been consumed by copious amounts of science papers. There are papers to read for class, papers to read for lab, papers to read in preparation for quals. It never stops! But I did discover this Nature paper (for fun, on my own) that was published a few days ago about turning skin cells into heart cells directly and bypassing the stem cell stage altogether. Ah-may-zing! I think I could really get into this aging research stuff, so I really hope I get put in the Curran lab for my last rotation!

Weekend plans include science, superbowl, and shopping at Trader Joe's. The fridge is looking bare, and I'm in need of baking supplies. Speaking of food and cooking, I've broaden my repertoire of recipes! Being a grad student actually gives me more time to try more things in the kitchen. It's kind of fun to explore new one-person recipes to try. On the list include: korean scallion pancakes, quiche for one, three cheese chicken spinach meatballs, and no bake chocolate macaroons.

I'm rooting for the Packers on Sunday! The Steelers have the most terrible logo ever and a shady character in their hands. In addition, I have to cheer for the Cal alum on the Packers team!
