i will roll down the south and only stop for drinks

how sad it will be when summer's looming end arrives and the adventures of myself and my friends will be shortened into jaunts to little warm coves in each other's houses.

i have felt so privileged to look through your big camera eyes at the places the sun had led you to.

i hope you enjoy coming along with me this week...

august 2: fly to st. louis, mo, and visit with laurie and axel. take big sips as we tell stories of the past two years. i will practice a french long forgotten.

august 3: mom and dad pick me up in their life-finally-is-right convertible for just one more night in st. louis, surely admiring the arch and the mighty mississippi, touring the anheuser-busch brewery, and riverboating and blues-listening for cash. take a look and a lick at route 66.

august 4-6: drive south to memphis, tennessee, to view graceland in its midst of strip malls and sadness. think about pills, and then think about guns. take solo jaunts to the soul museum, center for southern folklore, and the national civil rights museum. teach bourbon to go down right at blues and soul joints. kiss the liberty that sounds like itself.

august 7: drive even further south into the fine state of arkansas. will it be my first time and my last? meander over to little rock for a day at the bill clinton library. gushovermyselfbecauseiwanttobethere. smack lips together for hill.

then it's back to memphis en route to philly, pa.

and i will sweetly follow the sunshine in circles around my city for just a few weeks more.
