1632 - Ring of fire - Interesting relationship between author, publisher and Fanfic

So I have been reading the 1632-Ring of Fire series. It is about a small town in West Virginia in 2000 that is somehow swapped out with a similar chunk of land in 1632 Germany by some pan-dimensional aliens up to some mischeif. We never see the pan-dimensional aliens again, sadly.

I am really liking them so far. I would strongly recommend them for young adults that are either interested in history or that you wish were more interested in history.

The first book was uneven but, interesting. The second book is quite good so far. There are at least 4 others that are currently in print and available and several collections of short stories available for download from the publisher's website called "The Grantville Gazette" Volumes 1 though - God only knows.

The first two books and the short stories are available here:

I was curious to see if there was any fan fiction for the series and couldn't find any in the typical places. Then I realized that the Grantville Gazette actually is a collection of fan fiction. I haven't had a chance to delve into it yet but, from the author's note at the beginning, it looks to be fanfiction that was submitted to the publisher that the publisher thought was worth publishing. They are available for free download but, you can make a donation, if you would like.

I just thought I would point it out in case anyone was interested. I have seen a lot of variation in authors and their relationships with fans. This was a mode I had not encountered before.

Of course, I doubt any of the stories in the Gazette are what I am looking for - crossovers with Stephen King's "Under the Dome" and possibly Doctor Who regarding the mischeif-making aliens. That might run into copyright problems for the publisher.
