It's not quite the end of the year yet, but we're nearly there, so I'm doing this now, in the hopes that nothing life-altering happens between now and next Saturday. :)
1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?
I went to a Harry Potter convention! I met a ton of other fans, including many people who I'd spent months (or years!) talking to online. It was absolutely amazing. 2010 had some really awful moments that involved things I'd never dealt with or experienced or done before, but I'd rather remember the good stuff, you know? Also, I completed what is, to date, the longest fanfic I've ever written-and two chaptered fics. Now, bear in mind, at just under 24,000 words, that 'longest story' is hardly impressive, I suppose, and those two chaptered fics that were finished are still the minority, surrounded by the seven or eight WIPs I have floating around in various fandoms, but still. Baby steps, right?
2. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Just one.
3. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
More time, more creative inspiration, more energy.
4. What events from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Holding my nephew for the first time. Munchkin creating her own really random Scooby Doo fanfiction (verbally, not in writing; she's three, and it made my day). The entirety of my time at Infinitus. Christmas with my family.
5. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I don't think I really accomplished much this year. I set out with a number of goals in mind more than once throughout the year, but nothing really came to fruition, and some of it ended up being complete disaster. So… we'll say 'finding a job that pays far more than my last one'.
6. What was your biggest failure?
Ugh. Don't ask.
7. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Kidney trouble that landed me in the hospital in June, but other than that, it was a fairly uneventful year, health-wise.
8. What was the best thing you bought?
Lol, every year this seems to be filled up with DVDs. I got the complete series of Battlestar Galactica and Deadwood this year, which was awesome. Also, a wireless printer-which is a big deal because it's been years since I've had a working printer. <3
9. Whose behavior merited celebration?
The SH staff, for not murdering me this past year while I was seriously failing at life, and for being so generous with their time and efforts. I love them all. My friends, both online and off, for loving and supporting and comforting me through one of the hardest years I've lived thus far. Munchkin again this year, for learning to make up stories and entertaining me with them.
10. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Certain useless teenagers.
11. Where did most of your money go?
Bills. Useless teenager. More bills. Don't see the 'bills' part changing anytime soon. Lol.
12. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Infinitus. Thanksgiving with my friends. My birthday with visiting Munchkin and Gran.
13. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Happier, I think? Odd, considering what a crappy year it was, but ultimately, I think I'm happier. Not sure how that happened, but I'm not complaining.
b) thinner or fatter? Thinner! At this moment (well, as of last week, when I last stepped on the scale), I am officially 50 pounds lighter than I was this time last year.
c) richer or poorer? Richer. Yay new job that's finally paying what they said it would after five months of not paying nearly as much as they'd implied!
14. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Writing. God, I miss writing. Reading. Sleeping. Exercising. Just about everything fandom-related.
15. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Working. Stressing out over life. Crying. Feeling guilty over the things I wish I'd done more of. Yes, I did just end a sentence with 'of'. I'm sleepy.
16. How did you spend Christmas?
With a few of my siblings and their offspring in SW Florida. Was a LOT of fun, and if ever my sister actually emails me the pics on her camera, I shall picspam the flist with adorable Munchkin photos.
17. Did you fall in love in 2010?
Nope.
18. Thing you did most often?
Stressing out. Working. Um… yeah, that was basically 2010. It wasn't a great year.
19. What was your favorite TV program?
I'm always years behind on TV because I don’t have cable and watch things only once I can Netflix them, with very few exceptions. While I can't say I particularly have a favorite, I watched my way through a variety of shows this year: Battlestar Galactica, Big Love, Caprica, Deadwood, Dollhouse, and Glee. I'd say Battlestar Galactica and Deadwood kept me the most captivated.
20. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Probably a few, actually, but one person in particular.
21. What was the best book you read?
Um… I had time to read? Seriously, I miss the days when I could sit down and read a book from start to finish. Or even just one chapter at a time. I never seem to have the energy for reading anymore. I started an HP read-through this year and failed at it before finishing half of book one; that was the extent of my attempts at reading something that wasn't delivered in easily-finished, bite-sized portions. Yay fanfic.
22. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Kimya Dawson. <3
23. What did you want and get?
A better-paying, less stressful job.
24. What did you want and not get?
A place to live without any roommates or leeches. That's being put off another six to nine months in favor of saving money while rooming with friends I've known over a decade and their daughter, whom I adore, for the majority of 2011. Oh well.
25. What did you do on your birthday, and was it a major milestone?
Not a milestone. A few of my siblings, along with Gran and Munchkin, came to town and we all spent the day hanging out, eating, and talking too much. Was lovely.
26. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Strangling certain useless teenagers. Finishing some of my WIPs.
27. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
My clothes shopping generally falls under the heading of 'Stuff-That-Was-On-Sale'. Lol.
28. What kept you sane?
My friends. <3
29. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
All of the ones that made headlines seemed to fail pretty hard this year. Lol. Still going strong on that Alberta Watson crush, though. <3
30. What political issue stirred you the most?
I tried to avoid politics this year. It only depresses me, and I had enough to deal with.
31. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010.
Giving your heart to something or someone can end in having it broken-but in the end, that doesn't always mean it wasn't worth it. Also, that great friends are worth more than all the riches in the world.
32. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Sometimes whispering's okay, but maybe you'd feel better if you scream today?
