Spring rain, a river

A river in my backyard yesterday, when almost three inches of rain fell very fast! It grew so dark the streetlights came on, and the rainwater gushed from the hills across the road into the culvert, which quickly filled and overflowed.

The Tennessee iris, in their muddy bank at the foot of the culvert, loved it...

Over in Fountain City, the main road turned into a river. One man got out his paddle boat to go to the grocery store.

The frogs are noisy at the back of my yard where there's a new wide pond in the bamboo grove.

The upper flowerbed's dirt washed away yesterday, leaving a dark trail down to the bird bath... I placed mossy bricks all along the bed's outer edge this morning and added in topsoil.

Daylilies are up, lenten roses are blooming.

Skunk cat, when the rain stopped late yesterday afternoon, came out of my shed where he had been sleeping in an overturned basket, and he sat on the wet bricks near the shed door and licked his paws.

I took from the refrigerator a napkinful of chicken shredded just for him and opened the back door.

"Here! Lunch!" I called, and he looked warily at me, and stared as I tossed his chicken in high arc.

He went back (elaborately) to licking his paws, dismissing me.

I went inside and looked through the curtains, and saw him moving.

Today it is sunny and cool and the willow trees are turning. My friend Cindy and I walked by the rushing river and listened to the frogs.

And now I am going downstairs to get a banana Popsicle.
