Christmas shawl, snow

When one is down with a cold, it probably isn't a good idea to watch sad art films all day.

I have seen angst and misery in Vietnam (a lost child), Belgium (a painter goes mad), Korea (two children abandoned by their mother), and Sweden (evil stepfather).

The snow has melted after an entire night and day of heavy rains, but wasn't it lovely?

I wrapped myself in Kate's handmade Christmas shawl (it is whiter than in this photograph and has tiny glass beads in random places along the tassles) and shuffled around drinking tea and dropping Kleenexes.

We had red and green star-shaped gumdrops, which I couldn't taste.

It is possible I have begun to master Swedish after almost an entire DAY of Bergman's film about the sad, sad children.

A happy new year!
