On a Facebook group page for moms in my town, an aquaintance of mine today stated that the human disease Hand, Foot, and Mouth is the same as the cow disease Foot and Mouth. After I quoted the CDC website's clarification that the two diseases are similarly named but caused by different viruses, my aquaintance replied:
"So are you saying that the human virus is a mutation from the cow version?? :) Like I said, we go with different schools of thought. The same folks have also supported, white bread, asbestus, sugar and so many other things. We both know studies can be made to say anything. So we'll just have to agree to disagree here."
"Different schools of thought"?? Honey, a different virus is a different virus. That's not a school of thought. That's science vs. whackadoo.
