Word Count: 200+

Disclaimer: I own nothing. I would if I could, but I can’t, so I don’t.
A/N: Sometime in the not so recent past, the prompt “Superstition” was posted (apologies to any and all for my forgetfulness, a permanent condition it would seem). The voice kept haunting me until I put everything aside to attend. Now perhaps I’ll find a bit of peace .

Violence always bracketed their meetings, two spinning entities whose orbits occasionally crossed, more like collided, go careening off, only to be drawn back together again. Flotsam they were, whirling in an eddy known as the Brethren of the Coast. Of all the Seven Seas, you’d think she could find one of her own!

He knew she was there before he saw her, a foreboding like a hurtling cannonball. Their wrists brushed, and he felt her pulse in a tempo that called his, sultry and throbbing like that bloody music she fancied so much.

He glared at his compass. A bit of a warning would have done quite nicely! Just once, you’d think the damned thing could show what I don’t want!

The mystics would call her a curse, a witch, mage, demoness, enchantress… succubus, sucking the very life from spirit, body and soul, and never so much as a laying on of the hands.

Fate would call the harridan an omen, harbinger, a foretoken of worse yet to come, if such a thing was possible.

And Providence? Aye, well, that one always seemed to be looking the other way, now didn’t it?

She was proof positive that lightning did indeed strike twice… three times… very well, four, if you must-contrary to all superstition.
