The dinner, provided by Jack’s friend, smells delicious and looks questionable. That’s what one must expect with gourmet food, though Jack, knowing this, can’t help but make a face at it as he glances from the door to the table.

He’s not pacing the living room. He’s not anxious. Not at all.

But where’s Mary Anne?

Mary Anne is headed up the steps to the front door, humming to herself.

She knocks twice and resists the urge to rock back on her heels; wouldn't do to ruin such comfortable shoes, after all.

Jack does not run to the door. It’s a light jog, really.

“Mary Anne!” he says, opening the door. It’s almost a sigh of relief.

"Jack," she replies, arching an eyebrow.

"A little nervous, are we?" She steps inside, shrugging out of her coat. Her dress, courtesy of Bar, is blue again, though a little more formal than last time. And she even remembered to leave the knives at home.

He flashes a sharp smile. "Of course not. You remember where the dining room is, yes?"

She grins in return.

"Of course. Should I just go make myself comfortable, then?"

"Yeah," he says distractedly, looking to the front door again.

She turns to go, but not before laying a hand on his arm.

"Hey. Relax a little, lovely. It'll be fine."

And then she's headed down the hall.

And then there's another knock on the door.

Jack looks at Mary Anne, then straightens his tie and opens the front door.

And it's Vikki, reasonably dressed for a small dinner among Jack and a faslely pronouned friend. It's a simple, dark green dress she wears that accentuates what figure she has very well. Flashing Jack a smile, she says, "Hello. I'm not late, am I?"

Jack stops himself short from looking at Vikki's outfit. He extends a hand and places it gently on her arm, guiding her into the foyer.

"No, not late at all. Dinner's just getting started. I'd like to introduce you to my friend..."

She looks at him slyly, as if knowing what he's stopped himself from doing. What she likes about this dress is that no one can resist looking at it for too long. She flips her black hair away from her right shoulder and follows Jack into the dining room.

She is quite surprised, and quite displeased, to find that his friend is a woman.

His friend doesn't look displeased at all. She stands up when they enter, walking around the table to greet Vikki.

"Hi! You must be Vikki; it's a pleasure to finally meet you. I'm Mary Anne."

She smiles warmly and offers her hand.

Vikki regards her cooly, extending her hand. "You didn't tell me you had a...lady friend, Jack."

Mary Anne closes the gap and shakes her hand, her grip firm but not painful.

"He didn't?"

She looks questioningly at Jack, expression bordering on a pout.

"And here I thought we were good friends. Surely you weren't hiding me, Jack?"

"I'm not in the habit of hiding my friends," he replies. "Anyway, food's getting cold. Shall we sit?" He looks to Victoria, who is quietly seething.
