Finally! My long overdue Coachella update.
Being able to stay at Andrew's parents Condo was a lifesaver... financially and psychologically. Walking through the campsite every day in the hot hot heat made me so greatful for the amazing space and POOL that we had. It was the hottest Coachella weekend on record! We hung out in the pool for the majority of the day because honestly - it was too hot to do anything else. Unfortuneately that caused us to miss some shows that we wanted to see, but you would not have survived into the evening if we had arrived any earlier. Even in the pool we had to drag the deck umbrellas over to shade the pool!
Our whole group on the last day - 13 of us!
We arrived late Thursday night.... or more life EARLY Friday morning.
FRIDAY - arrived at festival at 2:00 (the earliest of all three days) Within an hour and a half felt like I was going to DIE. TOO HOT!
Got ourselves all wristbanded up/explored a bit and then caught Neon Indian, Arctice Monkeys, WU LYF oh, hung out for some M. Ward too! Then things started getting a little over-lappy. Best unexpected show/act of the day AFROJACK! Ammmaazeeeballs. I danced my ass off. We had all split up by this time and some how all of us.... (where none of us were planning to go check out Afrojack) converged in the same spot out of the tens of thousands of people that were there... BAM! The night ended with The Black Keys (who frankly, were disappointing... they took forever between each song, didn't speak to the audience onces, and their sound sounded rushed) Don't get me wrong... I'm still a fan, but I took off after a couple songs to see M83 even though I had just seen them a month or so prior. The night ended with the EPICNESS of Swedish House Mafia. If only my feet would allow me to move. My body would not dance... drained. I had a good head bob going though! haha.
SATURDAY - arrived at festival at 4:00
Unfortuneately, I missed The Vaccines, Dragonette, and Azealia Banks who played earlier, but none of the three could drag me out of the pool to sweat to near death. We started out easy sitting on the grass listening to Andrew Bird and Jeff Magnum . Caught the start of The Shins... WHO KNEW THAT KEVIN SPACEY WAS THE LEAD SINGER OF THE SHINS?!!! lol No really... they're getting a wee bit old and he looks just like him!! I only recognize older stuff aka The Garden State Soundtrack which they were not playing so I didn't stick around long. Had to get over to see my girl Feist who was AMAZING. She was so genuinely happy to there and put on a great great great show! She didn't even play some of her older hits and I still loved. Good Canadian Girl. Ha. She was also really funny, loving every moment. Made you feel good. Squished my way into the peripherary crowd of the David Guetta tent. It was great, but I wanted to be in there. Oh... walking there I took in some Bon Iver and then we made our way back to set up for Radiohead. I am not a die hard fan, but several of the guys in our group ARE. Like... have been to every Radiohead concert in Vancouver or Seattle in the past 15 years. Hardcore.... and well, you kind of have to be a fan. The set was epically long. They encored twice. I was so tired, I ended up lying down and possibly falling asleep?!??!
In my defense you have to understand that the shows didn't end until 1:00 am each night so I had been taking in 9 hours of festival each day!
SUNDAY TO FOLLOW. Possibly my favourite day. :)
Two photos from my phone... I haven't uploaded my camera yet, but I honestly didn't take very many!
This one is looking at one of the DJ tents from a Beer Garden - some shade!
The mass exodus.
