豬年快樂!:﹣)

Feb 01, 2007 23:46

So last weekend was the Lunar New Year celebration (a little early) which was a lot of fun!! There were caterers from the Chinatown Bakery who came and sold custards, buns with various fillings, and cheese and scallion pancakes. Plus Absolutely Asia and Tom Can Cook provided the dinner. Great times for all!! In the performance, I was in "對面的女孩看過來" which is a silly song about a guy who can never get a girlfriend no matter what he tries doing. I was also in the fashion show where I got to wear some awesome silken garments and show off my stuff. Everyone looked great!

Other highlights were the lion dance, the jugglers, the martial arts performers, and the post-show events: calligraphy, lantern making, picking up marbles with chopsticks to win candy, and other fun things. After all the cleanup was done, there was an awesome after-party, and when I finally went to bed it was after 5am . . . fun times!! And since the Super Bowl is coming up, there is bound to be even more fun and games soon! So on the whole second semester of senior year has been great so far . . . busy but not too busy ~_^

Anyways, here are some pictures!

This character means 'spring' because this is the Spring Festival!

Here I am with everyone! Brandon, Ting, Tom, Jen, Reggie, Stephanie, Julia Lian and Julia Kwong are behind me :-)

Now shifting gears a little . . . This is from the summer, and is of the West Lake in Hangzhou :-)

A view of the shore from on board one of the lake cruising boats

A lakeside hotel and restaurant

Hangzhou itself, and the musical fountains too!

This is about what I looked like -_^

Back on land again, next to the shores of the lake! Summer isn't the best time for flowers, but these were still awesome :-)

A great place to stroll and forget your worries!

A policeman reminding us to stay off the grass so it will remain green :-)

Here he is!

Marco Polo says that Hangzhou is the most beautiful and precious place in the world :-)

The name says it all :-) Those characters actually say 'money closet' but that's okay; it's still a great place!

Some Hangzhou palm trees :-)

Entering the lakeside walkway area from downtown :-)

A souvenir/refreshment/camera stand :-)

This is one of the big touristy 'dinner on the lake' cruises :-)

^___^

Getting near sunset!

Lotuses!

One of many path decorations . . . they are really splendid!

On the ground underneath that lakeside pagoda ^_^

An upcoming theatrical performance! So cool . . .

A reminder that we are in an area under the protection of the Public Safety Dept. and that they can assist us if necessary :-) I really like these policemen signs! Plus the policemen who I did meet were very friendly and helpful :-)

A shop in the downtown area!

A place of benevolence and equality :-)

Hangzhou's night scene is a lot of fun and getting even more fun all the time!

:-)

The entrance to a mall; time to do some shopping! The signs are really incredible and they are always changing colors; it creates such an exciting and vibrant atmosphere!

One of the more spectacular signs in mid-cascade :-)

At a tea shop inside having some samples of various types of tea/tea cookies :-)

The tea shop people were so nice! They gave me free samples of 5 or 6 different kinds of tea and tea cookies and I talked with them about my summer, my first time in China, what America is like, and stuff like that :-)

Here they are! ^__^

^__^

Here is some of the merchandise for sale O___O I wish I had gotten even more!

A view of the store from just outside of it!

"New Snack Heaven" Very true!

This Japanese candy store was HUGE!! So many delicious things that I had never had before and of course I had to try many of them ^__^

Some examples ^__^

^__^ I've never been too big a fan of big shopping malls, but Chinese malls are tons of fun! I hardly ever got bored.

Mai Dang Lau's :-)

The bus stop near the mall. Here I hopped on the K-12 bus and rode back to the ZUT stop. Riding the buses is lots of fun, and some of them even have TVs!

An amazing 4RMB (50 cents) bowl of hot and sour soup at a tiny restaurant near the university :-)

The people in charge of the restaurant :-)

Master chef Cao Zhimin mixing the water chestnut flour to make 糖醋里脊 (aka General Gao's Chicken)

In progress!

宮爆雞丁, or Kung Pao Chicken (chicken with tofu and peanuts in spicy sauce), the best I've ever had!

General Gao's chicken being fried!

Yum! I am very glad I chose this for my extracurricular class :-)

More pics of the ZUT campus :-)

Under the bell :-)

Back in downtown Hangzhou :-)

Here it is!

By the lake :-)

A directory of the fancy restaurants in the area :-)

A very cool tourist :-)

Keeping the paths clean

At the Crystal Jade Garden restaurant :-)

Ingrid (one of my classmates)!

Some deliciously cold and refreshing Dragon Well tea to beat the heat! :-)

Here is my antidote to the heat! :-)

These fruits were really good as well . . . that pretty dove is carved from the watermelon rind, which is still attached to a slice a watermelon :-)

At a tea house!

I don't think there are many better places to have tea ^__^

Ingrid having tea :-)

Sarah, Margaret, and their roommates/friends of roommates later joined up with us :-)

We had quite a tea party! -_^

Yummm . . .

Fruity tea!
