Jesus Christ. Finally had the time to pull Paige aside and talk to her. I assured her whatever happened whan Ashmore had her, it'd be alright. The shit she told me, made my blood tun cold. I knew she had been asaulted physically, the bruises she's sporting ain't the kind you get from the battle field, they're the kind that come from a purposeful beating. It was hard but I had to ask if any other physical harm had come to her. She swore to me it hadn't. I told her that if the physical harm that happened to her had been too much, if this Ashmore had threatened her and she had been compelled to inform him of our activities, that I would understand. That it didn't make her any less of a soldier in my eyes. She said she had been compelled but not cause of the pain or anything else. Aparently this Ashmore had someone do magic on her and she that is when she gave up the information. She didn't make excuses for herself, she took the fall for something that was completely out of her control. I told her I was proud of her, that she had done her job well and what happened was nothing for her to be ashamed of. She was too guarded for me to tell whether or not she believed me. I told her that I had no intentions of telling anyone else what she had told me.
She shouldn't be carrying this weight. These people including her are my responsibilty. There were things I was trained to do that I overlooked or got distracted from doing. She was missing and instead of acting like the commanding officer for the hundred plus other personel and the civilians that I should be looking out for, I was only thinking about getting her back. And not entirely for her sake, though mostly, but for my own, cause I couldn't handle the guilt of getting her into the mess. I put the needs of a couple people before the needs of the many and that lack honor. But Kims right, I can't be focusing on that now, there'll be plenty of time for recrimenations after we all get out of this mess. I swear to fucking God, we're all gettin out of this.
Personally, I'd like nothing more just to fucking il the bastard with my bare hands. For no other reason than payback for doing that to Paige, for ordering the attacks that got twenty of my men killed that first night, twentythree if you add the ones that died later in the week. Four of Maddy's cops were killed. A couple civialians ended up dead during the week from infuries suffered at the attack on the hospital, one of the surgeons from the hospital whos only mistake was staying behind for his patients, and older woman who was a patient at the hospital, who had had no place else to go when things had started to get bad. Nevermind the injuries, too many to count.
Like Kim. Sliced open. God, I can't even allow myself to think about what could have happened. What I would've done if she hadn't been alright. Its another subject I'll have to table for now, or it'll distract me to no end, and I'll be useless to these people. She's so strong, or stubborn. Ask me at different times in the day and you'll get different answers as to what best fits her. She wanted out of the infirmary ASAP. Not much I could do to turn her around on that. After a lively debate on the condition in which I'd get her sprung, we found a some quarters away from the constant activity in the front of the school. Some place she could get some rest. She's getting better, stronger everyday. Its to the point now she itching to get back into the fight.
Esecially now. Ashmore decided to take up shop across the street from the school. When I saw him march his army in, I thought here we go. But then the fucker just sat out there. He didn't attck us on the spot. He has more than enough in his army to outnumber us. But he's just sitting out there, trying to fuck with peoples heads. I reckon he's doing a got job at it. Half the people in here are wanting to just fight and get it over with. The other half are dreading it I reckon. I'm approaching the situation with caution. If we are gonna engage him in battle, I want the best odds that we are going to win.
We had a meeting the other day. Giles put to the group some plan about bringing a girl who is a slayer and a vampire, over her from another dimension. I know enough to not dismiss the concept, yet I am skeptical. Seems like a lot of unknown variables. The fact that she attacked Penn the last time she was around made me even more wary. Even if she is inclined to help, it'll do us no good if half our team is on edge and doesnt trust her in a fight. On the other hand, if ever there was a situation that called for desperate measures...I voted on the side to bring her in and stake her if she turned on us. I ain't got any qualms about taking her out if the need arises.
Kim came to me earlier today with an idea. She one of the people who are itchin' to just thrown down, get it over with. She hates the fact that he seems to be taunting us too. She said something though that got me thinking. They took Paige for information, why can't we do the same. It was an excellent question and it got the wheels turning. I was too busy thinking big picture and how we would handle a full on assault. Gotta think guerilla warfare here, not something big and flashy. Small enough to work, but if successful maybe it'll raise morale and make getting out of this intact seem more a possibility.
Grabbed a handful of people and planned a little smash and grab. Xander helped build this school, he was assigned finding us an undetectable way in and out. Once we figured out where we could get in and out. We assembled a team. Kim wanted in, but I had to remind her she was still healin' up, no sense risking reinjury. I'm not sure how she felt about that, figured she'll let me know after it's over. Besides I have something else in mind for her, Sean, Izzy and a team of my men. They'll be stationed on top the roof to provide a distraction while Penn, Yuffie, Astraeia, Trick, Xander, Maddy and I take out some stragglers we noticed on the left flank. Penn will grab one of them and port 'im back into the school where Giles and Willow can secure the prisoner for interrogation.
I like this plan, I think it'll work.
