House reaction post.
First, let me just say that I am thrilled to discover that the writers have relearned how to write drama. My theory for the slow startup is that they had to spend a lot of time at home watching soaps, and so started to write in that style.
Luckily it seems to be over. Bones was good too, but who gives a shit?
It reminds me a little of the season 2 finale (which was one of the best mind-fuck episodes of anything that I've ever seen) in that it mostly involved House's subconscious, but this time in an extrinsic investigation, rather then an intrinsic one.
Also the amount of nudity was to me very pretty, as well as symbolic of the vulnerability of all the people involved. As was the helpless running around trying to stop House from killing himself. His helplessness to stop himself when faced with not only not knowing the answer to the puzzle, but not even knowing what the puzzle was, brought him to a new level of desperation in his need for understanding.
Just the fact that he let Chase into his brain symbolizes that. Also, since when does Melbourne have Scientologists?
This new vulnerability probably scared the shit out of everyone involved. Notice that not only did Wilson forget to call Amber, but Cuddy forgot to run her hospital. Notice that Cuddy and not Wilson was doing the majority of babysitting, highly unusual. This was probably at least partly because Wilson is much more of a pushover when it comes to House, but also largely because his presence to a greater degree would have brought up questions about Amber before the big reveal. Notice his lack of stripping in the hallucinations.
I am unable to watch trailers, for reasons which by now should be obvious, but I've heard that the final part will be much more Wilson-centric, which makes sense. My theory of the end? Amber is going to die. Or be in a coma. I would like to point out at this point that this is EXACTLY what I predicted before this season even began, never mind that these episodes were supposed to air months ago.
It's the only thing that makes sense given what I've heard about next season. Also, Amber saved House's life at the beginning of the year, it makes a Housian kind of sense that at the end, he will fail to save her.
I also have a theory that House will use whatever he saw when he was dead, before Amber saved him, to comfort Wilson, although he will probably lie about it to some extent. Because he loves his Wilson. Said so right in that ep.
I really hope I'm right about this, or I'm gonna look really stupid. Also it's like Buffy, where we spent all of season five hating Joyce, and then the minute she started getting acceptable again, she went dead.
Anyway, I've read some other bits of interesting criticism about this episode, and I can't wait to hear what everyone has to say about my analysis. See ya on the flip side!
