The vibration of the engine is enough to remind Tony that his car desperately needs realigning. He grits his teeth, thinks back -- when was the last time he had his Nissan inspected? What was the date on the inspection sticker in his window?
He flicks on a turn signal, preparing to make the left turn that puts him on his building’s street. Regardless of the date, he would have to turn it in for a tune-up, and preferably soon. On the way to the bar, McGee had said --
McGee -- he had said -- had said -- on the way to -- to the bar, he said --
Tony shivers, and shudders, and remembers that Tim -- no, McGee, not Tim, never Tim -- that he had been drinking Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, and damn it all, Tony could taste it still, the cinnamon and cloves and butter. On his lips, tingling on his tongue.
It’s over, Tony reminds himself. It’s over, it’s done. We’re not -- we can’t be -- we’re just not.
But that doesn’t stop him from running his tongue over his lips, to keep catching the taste of the alcohol. The taste of Tim, and his tender kisses.
