The plasma storm ravaging the canyon had forced both armies to remain safely inside.
Grif only wished that he could have Simmons with him. Though, not for any particular reason. Comfort, maybe.
He dove to the ground as another plasma shock seemed to shatter the sky, leaving behind green light and the smell of ozone. Teeth chattering, he clutched a handful of drupe seeds and crawled to the dead tree in the middle of the valley.
He pawed open a hole in the ground and wormed his fist into it before experiencing a moment of doubt.
Would this work here, on Blood Gulch? On this alien world? Just because Hawaii had been.... He shook himself. It would work. It HAD to work.
“I return these lost children to the earth,” he whispered. “And reclaim the gift that is my right.”
Another plasma shock hit him square between the shoulder blades just as gold sparks began shooting out of the ground.

I won’t say too much for now, but basically the gold sparks fill his mind with EVERYTHING that is happening on the planet he inhabits. Then he was hit --
