Some of my deaths are pretty nasty. It really doesn’t bother me lately. I just feel the leftover pain from when my body knits together, and then I have to clean up the aftermath. It’s a lot more traumatic for someone else seeing my messy death, and the clean up isn’t as easy. This last time, I had half my head blown away, and Gwen was right there to get all the gory details.

I came back to find her shaking up against a wall, with my assailant bleeding out at her feet. She wasn’t crying but you could tell she was strung out and about to go into shock. I quickly got on my feet and went to her.

I called her name once and she didn’t respond. “Gwen,” I said again, this time cupping her face in my hands. She looked up at me, but her eyes were blank, seeing right through me.

Desperate times and all that, so I kissed her, hoping that would get her attention. I didn’t care about Rhys or Ianto right then. I had to show her I was alright, that she was alright, that I was sorry, that I loved her. Eventually, she started kissing me back, and it was amazing.

When we pulled apart, Gwen finally saw me there. Now the tears started to fall. “Don’t ever do that to me again! I can’t-“ I held her as she sobbed into my coat, and whispered apologies into her hair.
