Chasing weevils in an ice storm was not the ideal place to play truth or dare. But the question had been asked.
“Dare,” Gwen replied. No one ever picked truth.
“Okay, I dare you to not wear a bra tomorrow.” She could hear the smirk over her headset.
“Wait, this is a long running game? You didn’t mention that earlier.”
“Must have slipped my mind.”
“Fine, but you need to take a Truth. If you can change the rules, so can I.”
“Truth is good. Especially if it means you without a bra.”
“Jack, you’re such a perv sometimes.” Gwen stopped in a doorway to take shelter from an icy blast of air. “Truth. Why everyone else but me?”
Jack stopped following the weevil tracks in the snow. “… what?”
“Why will you kiss or fondle or sleep with everyone but me? Did I do something wrong?” He could hear the tremble in her voice. Gwen had obviously wanted to ask this for along time.
“No. Gwen, I do want you. So much it hurts sometimes. But I just don’t think-I don’t think I’m good enough for you.”
Silence greeted him on the other end of his Bluetooth. “Gwen? You there? Heart on my sleeve here.”
If there was an answer back, it was interrupted by the snarling weevil that threw Jack to the pavement. The last thing Jack thought before it went black was Did Gwen get away?
