Title: Finding Solace
Author: Rae
Rating: PG-13 (implied sex)
Word Count: 250
A/N: I decided I hadn't written anything for here in a while so I had a short idea which turned into a nightmare. The amount of time I spent faffing around on this - I mean I wrestled with the word count for 25 minutes. I think it all just rotted my brain.

Jack had, not dreams, moments when he lay staring up at his ceiling where he would contemplate meaning in nothing and everything.

A small sly smirk crept on his face as he remembered the distinct blush under Gwen’s skin when he had made some kind of comment to her. It still amazed him, after all this time, she was still responsive to his innuendo. Gwen had scolded him lightly under her breath, that quiet hiss, “Jack!”

It made him grin at the time but now it itched under his skin, he tried to extract and read emotion into the one syllable, tried to discern it from all the other words that had ever been said to him. The more the word was etched in his brain the more it felt like Jack could hear it on a whisper as she cried out and clutched at him. He could almost feel his arms around her as he rocked back and forth. With that sweet flush fanning out under her skin as she pressed against him.

It was in moments like this Jack found it hard to distinguish his illusion with reality. He had lived so long there was no telling left from right. There was no harm in him indulging himself because Jack had vowed he would not act on his desire in reality, not fantasy.

It’s just some things were better this way, he told himself.

Staring up at the ceiling Jack found no justification for his thoughts, just solace.
