M came back from London today. She was very... worked up. She wouldn’t say what happened; she just went into the autopsy bay and started catching up on work. She worked the rest of the day, and well into the evening, and then she finally came out.

She sat in the conference room and just started crying. I guess the weekend started out well with the dress appointment, but then she started spending time with D, both their parents and the wedding planner. The constant talk about locations, catering, cake, guest list, seating arraignments, music etc was completely overwhelming. She said all the planning made her feel like she was throwing a big party for everyone else, and it was starting to lose the sense of meaning it was supposed to have.

She ended up deciding that she doesn’t want the big London wedding, she wants a small wedding... on the 20th of June, which is in eleven days.

June 10th, 2009

D came to see M. They talked about the wedding for a long time. We were hoping he’d be able to talk some sense into her about the new date. It didn’t really work out. He seems to like the idea of small and soon, so it’s still happening.

At least the dress is done, that’s something I guess. They don’t have a location or flowers or invitations, but they have the wedding dress. D has to work in London, and M is refusing to use a wedding planner, because she’s on this whole kick about the wedding being personal, and she feels wedding planners are impersonal. Looks like TW is planning a wedding.

That’s a sentence I never thought I’d say.

The conference room is now full of fabric samples, brochures, and lots and lots of notes. Everything that’s not of immediate concern has been pushed to the back burner until this wedding happens.

I didn’t even enjoy planning my own wedding, and that was a party for me. I’m sure that by the 20th we’ll all be pretty sick of this wedding business, but when J’s behind the planning of a party you know it’s going to be good. The man knows how to have a good time. He also knows how to make sure other people have a good time. I think he missed his calling as an event planner, but I have no intention of telling him that. His ego is big enough as it is.
