But Patriarchy is such a HARSH word!

So, the sad thing is not only that the highest-paid CEO-with-gonads-on-the-outside, Lawrence Ellison of Oracle, made $557 million, which is 47.2 times what the highest-paid CEO-with-gonads-on-the-inside, Andrea Jung of Avon, made: $11.8 million.

It's also sad that you have to go down 111 places on Forbes' master list of CEO pay to find Ms. Jung.

And it's sad that, according to the article accompanying the What Women CEOs Are Earning slideshow, "of the 1,000 largest publicly traded companies by revenues, a paltry 27 women are in the CEO's seat. And in general, women still earn only 78% of their male counterparts."

What's really sad, though, is the argument I stopped having on Facebook with an old high school classmate. He prefers "chauvinist" to "Patriarchy" because it can be applied equally to men and women. Because the word Patriarchy lays all the blame for male violence at the feet of the men and doesn't blame the women enough. And because it implies that there are places where women are subservient when he can't think of anywhere that's true.

I used to have such a crush on this guy, too. *sigh* Facebook is ev0l! If it weren't for FB, I never would have known he grew up to be a biological determinist.

feminism, money, corpev0l
