I want to extend my gratitude and appreciation to:
Reverse Bang Challenge
phoenixrising01,
enthused_fish and
fulltobursting for claiming my artwork for the Reverse Bang. It was my second time participating as an artist. I was happy to see all three pieces were claimed!
Big Bang/Multi-Bang Challenge
rose_malmaison for all her beta help this year on my Big Bang/ Challenge story. My stories are always greatly improved by her input and typo-catching.
red_pink_dots for claiming my summary and creating beautiful artwork for my Big Bang Challenge story.
SeSa
Many thanks to
rose_malmaison for the beta on my SeSa (Secret Santa) story this year.
A huge thank you to all those who participate in my challenges. Without participants, there would be no challenges!
And also many thanks to all my other fandom friends, chat buddies and those who read and comment on my stories. I would still write without it, but having people enjoying my work always puts a smile on my face!
NCIS Big Bang Challenge (BB) 1 story:
Two Roads
on AO3 60,712 words
This turned out to be my 100th NCIS fanfic! As I was searching for images for the 2022 Reverse Bang (for artwork), I came across a rather stunning photo of young MH, and thought, wouldn't he look great next to similar-aged Tony? I generally don't care for de-aging stories, so I didn't want to go there. So then I thought, what if Tony meets a young man who strongly resembles Gibbs? The story begins late S19/early S20, with Gibbs' boats blowing up and the team searching for him. However, the story focuses on Tony's thoughts and relationships and still makes perfect sense if you stopped watching the series a long time ago. Tony is now working for the missing persons division of the FBI in CA, and flies to DC to assist with finding Gibbs. After a month or so, he returns to CA while Gibbs is still missing. One night, Tony stops off at a beach and meets a young man. They begin a relationship. It takes a while for Tony to realize how much VJ resembles Gibbs. By then, Tim has sent some of Gibbs' journals out to Tony because they reveal that Gibbs was secretly enamored of Tony. Tim didn't feel right reading about Gibbs' feelings for Tony, so he sent the journals to Tony to review. (Spoiler) Gibbs is eventually found and Tony has to choose to stay with VJ, or to give a relationship with Gibbs a chance. I'd have to say, this is one of the top 10 best stories I've written in the NCIS fandom.
Beta'd by Rose_Malmaison, great artwork by Red_Pink_Dots where she created an image that matched the story, being from Tony's POV. There are two roads showing Tony's two possible relationships.
NCIS Secret Santa Challenge (SeSa) 1 story:
Tango & Spears
on AO3 12,565 words
With a field of 7, I drew longtime friend Dont_hate_me01. I've written 3 SeSa stories for her previously and the last one I wrote for her,
Healed By Moonlight, is the best NCIS SeSa story I've written. I don't care for shapeshifter and vampire stories in general, and have only read those I've beta'd, however, the story turned out really well, and I'm glad I took the chance and pushed my writing into something I normally would not have written (based on my recipient's request). In hindsight, perhaps I should have thought about writing a sequel to that story. I disliked my original thought for a story this year, mostly because I'm not a fan of the Gibbs/Fornell pairing as slashy, and not really a fan of Kort as not being a bad guy, so writing DiNozzo/Kort was difficult, even though it was in the past (RMA). In the end it, it leans toward Gibbs/DiNozzo, but apparently, my discomfort in trying something new didn't work out well this year. The story did grow on me and I was happy with it, unfortunately, it hasn't really found an audience that likes it. By comparison, Tango & Spears has had the worst start of any of my SeSa stories. This year,
Tango & Spears is 101 of 102 stories I've written. By comparison,
Healed By Moonlight is 7 of 102.
Beta'd by Rose_Malmaison.
NCIS Happy Holidays Challenge (HHC) 1 story:
Then we get into the Happy Holidays Challenge, which is the December holidays challenge. I enjoy the new series Ghosts. I've spotted one regular and one guest who also appeared in NCIS. Anyway, I thought about sending Gibbs and Tony to Woodstone Manor for a vacation. The thing is, Ghosts first season was last year, and it was more background, they weren't open for business until the final episode. S2 began airing in September, and now they've had guests, so to make it work, Gibbs and Tony had to go there Dec 2022. So again, like
Two Roads, there's the challenge that so many people who do read NCIS fanfic have stopped watching the later seasons of the series. Which is a shame. While I knew it wouldn't likely get read much, and probably wouldn't be very popular, it's still something I wanted to write, so I did. I would have liked to have it ready for the "vacation" theme, but it was obvious early on that wasn't going to happen. I finished up in time to post it for the "snow" theme.
Holiday Spirits
on AO3 6,436 words
So the basic gist of Ghosts is that Samantha inherits a haunted mansion, falls down the stairs, technically died for a few minutes, and now finds that she can see, hear and interact with the ghosts. Gibbs gives the holiday visit to Tony as a holiday gift. It's a fun, lighthearted story. There may not be many people are are fans of both NCIS and Ghosts who are also interested in reading such a crossover, but a handful of people seemed to like it.
NCIS Artwork - for 3 stories:
Reverse Bang Challenge:
Tim - claimed by Enthused_Fish (A Thousand Words)
on AO3 There's the original banner and an updated banner I'm really proud of.
I do better when I create artwork for stories I would never write. I'm not likely to write Tim-centric. And I knew we have a couple RB participants who enjoy writing Tim. I found three Tim images I liked and put them together. After she wrote her story, Enthused_Fish asked if I would be open to using a different background that was more in line with her story. I found several usable backgrounds, so I not only changed the main background, but also the backgrounds of the smaller images as well. The change is really amazing and I'm so proud of the final banner. Tim has decided to get back into writing and goes to Baltimore to take photos for inspiration and manages to get himself into trouble.
Tony/Tim - claimed by PhoenixRising (Probie 101)
on AO3 I created an original banner, then updated it.
We had a request for more Gen options for the RB, so while I initially was thinking Tony/Tim slash, I thought, why not offer it as Gen? I actually offered all three of my pieces as Gen-optional. I wound up beta-reading this one as well, and as she didn't have a title picked out, I suggested Probie 101, which she went with. I did do a bit of an update after reading her story which deals with Tim when he's new on the team and engages Tony to help him settle into the job.
Gibbs/Tony and Team - claimed by Fulltobursing/Unilocular (Apparition)
on AO3 I created an original banner, then updated it, plus created a couple of page breaks.
I created this as a Gibbs/Tony piece, but included the team. Again, I offered it as Gen eligible. The piece has three panels. In the original, Gibbs and Tony are in the center, Kate and Ducky to the left and Abby with Tim on the right. I purposely tried to make it appear that Abby and Tim could be holding hands and was open to that pairings as well. Like my other two pieces, this one ended up being a Gen story. When I created this piece, I was playing around with filters, and trying for gloomy/spooky/stormy feeling. I included a boat, so it could be a casefic. I was thinking ghost story. As in, the team could go onto the ship and encounter ghosts. Although, I did note I was fine with Kate being killed/dead as in the series. The author reached out to ensure I was okay with a ghost story, and with Kate being the ghost. Yes! It's a wonderful story, and like my other banners, I updated it after it was written. As the story focuses more on Tim and Tony, I moved them to the center panel along with Ghost!Kate. The updated banner has Kate alone in the right panel as it really is Kate's story, and the left panel has Gibbs and Ghost!Kate. In the story, Kate has recently died, but is still around.
Many thanks again to my wonderful beta and artists, and the writers who chose my artwork.
Also many thanks to everyone who participated in the challenges and communities. Fandom is so much more fun with participation and people to chat with!
Annual reminder that
jacie3 on LJ and jacie on DW are archives for my fanfiction. If you want to keep up and chat on a personal level, please friend my personal journal,
solariana on LJ (which is mostly locked) and jacieleigh on DW. As slow as LJ and DW have been, I'm always looking for more people to chat with! If you're looking for me on AO3, I'm there as "Jacie".
As far as new writing plans for 2023, I have one story in WIP status. It's almost done, but it's a Father's Day story, so I'm planning on finishing and posting it in June. I suspect I will sign up for the Big Bang and SeSa, but have no bunnies so far. I did have an idea for a second Big Bang story that I didn't write last year. Not sure if that will get written or not. I suppose we shall see.
As far as artwork, I have created artwork for the 2023 Reverse Bang Challenge.
Once again, I failed to add any more of my PopSlash stories to AO3. If anyone has any favorites they'd like to see posted at AO3, please let me know. I'm happy to add things, but there's so much and I never know where to start! I'm really determined to start adding more of my PopSlash to AO3. I never wanted to have more PopSlash than NCIS Slash as that is my current fandom, however, I'm getting pretty darn close, especially by adding in my artwork.
