.) The Tudor Craze- Okay, I'll admit that The Other Boleyn Girl was a historically inaccurate, but decent novel, and that Showtime's The Tudors, is a very well done historical soft-core porn. Yet, I cannot step into any bookstore today without seeing dozens of novels showing Mary's secret side of the story, or Anne's thoughts. Honestly, in reality, Mary Boleyn wasn't that endearing of a person. In her time at the French court, she had several alleged affairs, including one with Francis I. Her behavior at the court worried her family so much that they had her return to England and married her off to save their reputation. She was not the simple, innocent victim as she has been portrayed so many times recently.
.) Prequels/Sequels to Jane Austen Novels- Basically, this is pretty much over-hyped fanfiction that is ruling the bookshelves of your local bookstore. To the authors, How about you spend your time coming up with your own work, instead of bastardizing a great writer's works? The the readers of this tripe- Ladies, stop spending so much time with your cats, pay more attention to your appearance, and go out and get laid.
.) Chick lit in which mothers/daughters/sisters bond and find new meaning in their relationship- Ugh. Enough said. My mother, sister and I will bond over burning these books.
.) The Secret Story of...- These are the books that take inanimate objects (Chairs! Corpses! Salt!), and then spend 300 pages telling you their "interesting" history and how they saved the world. If you honestly spend time reading a book about the history of salt, you should probably get a new hobby.
Now go off and read good works.
