I am now in Lawton, OK stationed at Ft. Sill. Those few people whoe might still read this long stagnant blog probably know that already. I'm stationed with the 258th Signal Company. We support the 75th field artillary brigade. I hear the soothing booms of distant howitzers every day.
Lawton is a very boring place. There's no Barnes & Noble or Borders in town. All they have is a Waldenbooks in the mall the size of an airport bookstore. Yes. I'm grading the town based on its supply of books. If you're surprised it's been too long since we hung out.
This past week I've been in drivers training for HMMWVs and LMRTs. Those are the basic military vehicles everyone will end up driving. I'll be sticking with a HMMWV. Already been assigned one, though I haven't had a chance to see it yet. Training was fun. One of those instances where Army life was damn entertaining. We spent an entire day offroading. Those trucks can take a beating.
For Christmas I've decided not to take block leave. I'm close enough to Dallas I already spend at least one weekend a month seeing the folks. Using up leave would be extraneous. Since I'll be here I've been assigned to the holiday Quick Response Force. The QRF is responsible for reacting in case of emergency or terrorist attack or whatever. We'll guard a checkpoint or patrol an area. Most likely there will be a surprise training scenario during the break.
