Fucking HELL. Good luck with all that, seriously.

I went through that shit with Utility Warehouse when they tried to bill me £1.7k. Debt collectors and EVERYONE was involved. I was saved because I had photos of the meter which proved they must've misread it, and all the old statements that said I was paid up with zero balance. I really, really hope this all comes together for you. Like Tal said, I bet they got the wrong flat, and you'll have a hell of a time convincing them.

Do you have a copy of the statement that shows there's nothing to pay, and does it have the meter's serial number on? That serial number would prove they got the wrong flat.

And when you do switch, I'd absolutely recommend EDF. I had a massive misunderstanding with them last year (my meter switches been day and night rates, and they got them the wrong way around) and they resolved it super-quick. In fact, I didn't have to call them at all -- it was all done on Twitter and e-mail. And when I changed my name, they took it in their stride. No problems. They're good!
