Hee. I was first to comment. That's never happened before. *grins*
Let me see if there are enough words in the english language for me to say how much I love this chapter and this story period. Hmm...I don't think there is and since girlish squeals don't translate onto the screen, I'll just have to make do. :D
This chapter was fabulous for all the emotions it brought out. Logan's pain and guilt over losing his mother. One thing though is that I wish it had been clarified at what point in time in the story Logan had found the lighter. I got the impression that here he didn't find it until after the funeral reception since he waited so long to tell Veronica but on the show he had found it sometime before the funeral reception. Maybe he even found it straight after the news of his mom's death spread around. But I had the personal impression on the show that the lighter and Logan's belief that his mother was alive was what was keeping him from falling apart fueling the mask he put up for his father and the public. Here in this universe, it was clear that it was Veronica that was holding him together every step of the way which is why I would have like to have seen at exactly what point he found the lighter and started believing his mom was still alive since, unlike canon, I didn't get the sense that it was his driving force from the very beginning of the whole ordeal. Err...I don't know if that really made sense. *look* Ignore it if you like. lol.
And *pout* there's more I want to comment on but I have to go. I'll be back. :D
Real quick b/c I only have a minute, in this universe he found it after everyone left. :-) I wanted it to be Veronica that kept him going. I'll respond more later, I promise! :-)
Hee. I'm back. :D I loved loved loved that Veronica was there for Logan every step of the way. Even though she couldn't be with him publicly, she was still there whenever he needed her. I love that Veronica is proving that she's different from everyone else in Logan's life who has, in one way or another, abandoned him.
And Wallace helping out Keith was perfect. It's great that Veronica's attention wasn't divided between the Yolanda case and Logan, and Wallace is a perfect PI apprentice. He even has Veronica's sneakiness and disobedience thing down pat. lol.
One question though, you said the Lo/Yo (hee) kiss at the party never happened, so was Yolanda never friends with Veronica and Lilly either?
And Duncan. I actually felt real sympathy for Psycho!Donut. It's sad that he hasn't had the chance to properly grieve for Lilly yet and now Lynn's funeral has brought about all these unpleasant feelings. Duncan didn't talk about his memory loss on the day of Lilly's death at his interview with Ms. James, and I assume this was because he knew V was listening, but is it still the same as canon? Does Duncan still have no memory of the day of his sister's death?
Oh and if Duncan just wants things to go back to normal, when L/V are trying to keep their relationship from him, I'm interested to see how he reacts when they start to find ways to interact in public because of Veronica's investigation. That'll probably drive him crazy. Well, not that he isn't already crazy. lol.
The pool house! Okay, the poolhouse(s) on the show have always confused me because the poolhouse in AEFC looks different from the one in AtttD. Now one could say that it's because in AEFC we were shown the living area and in AtttD we were shown the bedroom. But because of ickiness factors of Aaron getting it on with Lilly (and probably various women) in the poolhouse his son hangs out in, I choose to personally believe that the Echolls' have TWO poolhouses. One that serves as Logan's rec room with his video games, poker table, kitchenette (and possible bedroom) and one that's Aaron's with it's bed and liquor cabinet. Hehe. So for me Logan and Veronica were in Logan's poolhouse in this story and not getting it on under Aaron's cameras. *shudders*
One of my favorite things about how this universe has developed is that their relationship is what "it could have been", if that makes sense. So V knows him so well that she knows both that he needs her and how to be there for him. Not that it's easy, it's just that she knows. :-)
In my mind in this scenario, Yolanda and Veronica never really got the chance to be friends b/c I compressed the timeline between Homecoming and Lilly's death. Yolanda never really had the chance to make an informed decision about Veronica on her own, so she was just another one the 09er pack sort of blindly following everyone else's opinion. I feel that she was less responsible than the others in this situation, b/c she didn't even know Veronica--she just knew that everyone hated the girl b/c she was supposed to be this big slut. (Lo/Yo--hee!) :-)
I'm afraid that I can make no comment on Duncan as regards his memories of Lilly's death. Right now, anyway. :-) And yes, how this goes with V and L in his presence should be very interesting. :-)
The pool house. Good point. In my mind, it's one place. We saw the living room in AEFC and the bedroom in AtttD.
I didn't go into it, but Logan found the lighter after the funeral. I wanted Veronica to be what got him through instead of the possibility that his mother was still alive. In this situation, that came afterwards.
So that makes total sense! I hope I answered your question. :-)
