Every once in a while, something comes my way and I just have to sit back and go... WOW.
I got to play Ninja Gaiden Black for the first time yesterday. When I picked up the controller memories flooded to me of all the things Feckless and Jonesman had told me. They told me that it is the most hard-core game out there. That it doesn't play. That even jobbers are a force to be reckoned with. So I grabbed that controller and after Feckless told me to relax some I began playing. Amazing. I love the controls for Halo2, but I think that this game has the very best. I felt like I already knew them almost the instant that I started playing. Maybe it's the controls, maybe I have a genuine knack for the game...but I did really good.
I started on normal mode and made my way through the first practice level. I was awed by the fact that the lesser characters were still forces to be reckoned with. But I made it to the boss battle. Good ol' nun chuck dude. And I got him down to about 10% of his original health and I died. (This was my first death.) So I reloaded, got back to him, went in without my health being 100% and I beat him without using ANY health items or talismans. I was pretty fucking proud. I turned to Feckless who was impressed, but he told me my luck was going to stop there. So I continued on, partly to prove to myself it wasn't a fluke. The next level I get surprised by the new ninja that don't go down near as easy as the ninjas in the first level. I make it to the two horsemen, and I defeat them with my sword. Feckless makes a comment after the battle is done that I was supposed to use the bow and that they leave arrows in the battlefield as a clue. Oh well. He also tells me that I won't make it through the next round with the actual boss. So I move right along and get to THE horseman and his magic using cronies. I get him down to about 20% health, kill all of his little magic dusters and then I experience my second death. Reload. The next time I go in, (still only using my sword) and I take out him and his magic buddies and still have some of my health items left.
I'm planning on playing again soon. But for right now, being at the third level and only dying twice works for me. :o) I'm proud. I'll let you know how future battles go.
