Had a dream that I was somewhere in South Asia visiting a village where a nuclear bomb had been dropped. The whole area was irradiated, and the only people alive were children. They had no eyes, and their skin was hard and flaky, as if it were made from potato chips. They were also vicious cannibals, I came to realize. I went back to the town where my hotel was to tell people, but they hardly believed me. I knew the children would follow me, so I found a gun to defend myself with. There was a vending machine in a local bar that sold ammunition, but it wouldn't take my dollar. But eventually, I found some scattered on the front patio (discarded like cigarette butts, but not all of the cartridges were empty). When the children started to show up and attack people, the folks at the bar took me more seriously. It had become a sort of sanctuary in the town. We organized into squads to hunt the cannibals down, but most people wanted to go off on their own. A lot of us only had nerf guns, instead of actual ones. I sat at a table on the back lawn, which was strung with white christmas lights, and I watched the children waiting in a nearby tree, staring at us with empty eye sockets and smiling.
Eventually, we left the town and headed West, only to find that there was war everywhere we went, all the way to the Atlantic ocean and beyond. After too many close calls, I found myself pretending to be a conscript in a passing army, so I might be surrounded by people who weren't shooting at me.
