Ugh. I have no idea what to do this summer. I have an amazing job offer from this company, Wilderness Ventures, to be their Kayak Specialist at Yellowstone. So I would basically be taking various groups of teenagers on 2-6 day kayaking trips up there. But then they sent me the contract. It only makes $250/week, AND you I wouldn't get paid until August!! The contract is due back to them next Thursday, 10 business days from now.
There is another company, which does similar programs, that I haven't yet applied to. Their first year staff make $350/week, and returning staff make $450/week. But, even if I sent them my application tomorrow, there is no way that I could have a job offer by next THursday, even if they were interested in me. So, do I just put them on the back burner for next year as a possibility? Or do I apply anyways, and then if I get a job with them, cancel my contract with Wilderness Ventures?
Or do I say screw all of this and work at Scherman again this summer, or apply to work as a Day Camp coordinator at the country club up here, where my sister made $4000 last summer for 7 weeks of 40-hour/week? Part of my goal for a summer job is definitely the experience, so even if I made more at the country club, I would rather do one of the other things. But, while I'm obviously not in this field for the money, I don't want to do it basically for free...
